Sicilian Surprises

These unusual sightings caught me off guard a few weeks ago.

City rainbow peeking through Catania's buildings. The entire drive was like playing peek-a-boo with a giant band of shocking rainbow color. The photo just doesn't do it justice, but it was amazing.

The sudden cloud covering followed by the ping-pong downpour of ice balls whizzing down from the sky onto the pavement startled me from my work. Can't remember the last time I experienced a 5 minute hail storm that disappeared as quickly as it came.

This week, though, it feels like summer and I am loving it while it lasts!

  1. I hear it is like summer where you are. We are having a mild winter up north. I am not complaining.

  2. Hi Beatriz,
Yes it really feels like summer, with just a hint of autumn coolness in the air. Gorgeous. We'll see how long it lasts, and I am sure you are not minding the mild temperatures up north either.

  3. Ciao! Oh I am loving this warm weather as well! The autumn colors are wonderful this year along the Amalfi Coast, and we've had some great days to get out and drive. That rainbow drive sounded amazing! Enjoy the sun!

  4. Lucky you! All we get is rain & fog.

  5. We've been spotting lots of rainbows lately too. Yours is gorgeous, peeking out from between the buildings like that. What a refreshing surprise! And don't you just love this weather? (But trust me, it was miserable trying to keep my kids inside while they were sick, especially since everything outside seemed so...perfect.)

  6. Great to hear that you are getting the good weather too, Laura (sorry Dana!).

Emily, I don't remember seeing any rainbows last year, is this normal??? Definitely beautiful when we are lucky enough to see one. That must have been tough keeping your girls indoors. I have been ignoring my son'ss cough and have probably been spending more time outdoors than we should be. But I can't help it, as you say, too perfect!

  7. I love the rainbow hovering above the hustle-bustle... and the "ice balls" wow - that would be an experience!

I'd love to hear from you!
